Am I the only one?

I beginning to wonder. Threw all these posts-- I only see people from the big companies like Conway Now-- Panther 2- and FedEx. But is there anyone who also has equipment leased to a company called "Try Hours"? Or am I their only driver? Out on the road-- I have seen only one other Try Hours driver making a delivery where I was making one. So Im just writing this post to see if there is anyone else out there! Also to ask if those Try Hours drivers are having just as bad a luck at finding loads as I am. This week I havent worked at all!!

How about calling your Company and ask how many units they have under lease. I doubt if it is Top Secret information. Try giving them a call, I'm sure they know you are working for them?

I used to work for them a couple of years ago and they had lots of trucks then. Still see em from time to time. Don't get too discouraged I've been a little slow too.

Wolf_Exp,

Your not alone my friend. We haul only automotive freight, and I am spitting distance from Detroit, and have not had one stinkin run! Even in February, when we are historically slowest, I still did some work.

Dont know what is going on; really seems strange, but I just holed up, spent time catching up on paperwork, etc. and my thinkin is, in a month, we will be wishing for a week off.

Hang in there- those of us working for the smaller companies seem to be taking a spankin this week.

To get accurate information on a carrier as to how many vehicles they have, you can go to the USDOT website. They update every 30 days. I have found that some smaller companies will color this number to appear larger than they are. "trust but verify"
Another source would be OOIDA. They get their information from the same source.

If that is all you people are getting you should begin investigating other companies. Gentleman we, you, and myself cannot afford to be sitting with no runs for a week. Your going broke, even if you have a rich uncle.

There have got to be companies out there that need good trucks and fantastic people. I am not looking but I have two companies that stay in contact with me and another company that if things went sour, an air freight forwarder. Do something before your decisions are made for you.

I couldn't agree more. Many are in tough circumstances. Many wait too long and use all of their funds while waiting on better times.
Some are limited in moving as well by age restrictions on their equipment, driving record problems, or specing a truck incorrectly (add ons limited to a specific carrier) that limit their choices.

I sent that message and spoke too soon. This Friday they called me up for a 30 mile payer. I was insulted-- but took it because I needed something. Then my dispatcher called me saying he had a run going from New Hampshire, Oh to Homer, Mi. Then on the way to Homer-- they called and said they had a run going from Fremont, Oh to Madisonville, Ky. Then Saturday morning I had a run going from Madisonville, Ky (where i dropped off at) and went to the north east side of Detroit. So I'll be getting a nice sized check this week!! Also- on the way from New Hampshire, Ohio to Homer, Mi I saw two Try Hours straight truck drivers. So I guess I spoke too soon?

When it is slow, like for most of us, we tend to loose our temper sooner . In late Feb/beginning March I was more busy than now. Now it only hurts because of gas prices, because I have to put more ito it than I actually have loads. My company for example claims that they do all they can to keep me busy, but I have to much deadhead lately, and dispatch tells me that it is slow for other companies as well. I don't know what they are smoking sometimes, if I didn't knew better I'd say they don't watch the screens like they should. I am able to run for another company as well, but they are even worse. I am not sure how long one should wait and watch, the grass might not be greener over at some other carrier and one wishes to be over at the old company again.
Not sure what to make of all this these days.
