Alumi Bunk Ground wire

I need someone who has an Alumi Bunk sleeper and has had this problem to tell me where to find the wire. I have lost all my sleeper power 12 volt. Everything on the inverter works but heater, lights clock does not. I have had this happen twice between the two trucks. The have both been fixed by cleaning and reattaching the ground wire. Well the trucks were in Detroit and could pull in Alumi Bunk. This time the truck is here at home. I am sure some of you know of this issue and know where that wire is. Can you please tell me. Thanks

I haven't ran an A/B truck for many years, but the sleeper ground wire on the ones I ran was actually a somewhat heavy gauge black cable, that was bolted to the floor of the sleeper underneath the truck (outside). The bolt either fell out or came loose sometimes, and all sleeper power was lost.

Thanks for the input. I will take a look and see if that is it. I am sure it is as I have changed all the fuses. When Alumi bunk fixed them in the past they have always said it was the ground wire. Thanks.

that is my experience with AB,when they are confronted with a problem that many owners are having they don't have the ability to figure out what what they need to do to eliminate it.while i have yet to have the ground wire problem,i have been back to thier manufacturing facility 3 times and to woodhaven, mich. many, many times and still they cannot get the a/c problem i have fixed.looks like it's going to be another long, hot summer. :( :( DD.

hi,jim. well i'll try to explain it, this might get lengthy.we have a 2003 international 7400,that we bought from AB at their knoxville location(no longer in operation)when we took delivery of the truck we were told that the truck needed to be taken to woodhaven to have the sleeper a/c connected to the truck's a/c system (why this wasn't done before we took delivery i have no idea, but the generator that we ordered wasn't on there either but that's another story)anyway, while driving to ohio from knoxville it was warm enough for us to turn on the cabs a/c.the air coming out was ICE cold, the international part of the system worked great.we took the truck to woodhaven to have AB tie the sleeper a/c into the trucks system.with the added lines to the sleeper and the evaperator unit under the bunk this caused them to increase the freon capacity from 1.8# to 3.5 or 4.0# depending on who was replacing the freon.after they tied into internationals system, the cab a/c never was able to match the level of coolness that it had when we first got the truck.we have had just about every line in the system blow out on us causing us to keep taking it back to AB for repairs(sometimes we have been in situations where we have had to go to other places because we were too far away from michigan to get it fixed.when your in phoenix and it's 100 degrees out you gotta do what you gotta do)AB has always managed to get the a/c operational but the repairs just don't last very long then were back to square one again.we have taken this truck to our local international dealer(wise international in akron, ohio)and they have told us that the way that AB tied into the trucks a/c system is incorrect, and that the system was never designed to circulate that much freon.also after saying that, they informed us that because of that they were voiding the warranty on the entire a/c system.since that time i have been back to dundalk, ont.to try and get it fixed and was told that the line where the AB and internationals system come together was split.they also told me that woodhaven is the only place that could replace this line.so back to woodhaven again, where they replaced the line(they didn't have a line for the 7400,so the "mechanic"put a line that was made for the 4400 on it with some modification)this repair did not work, and the "mechanic" did not have any idea of what to do next.so that is where we sit now,no a/c whatsoever and no idea what to do next. DD.

Well ours seem to be about the same size after all. Mine was so cold in the begining that we ran it nuteral (sp?). Then where A/B tied into the system they left no slack for the movement of the air ride bunk and the line broke. Took a couple of weeks to get parts and get repaired. After awhile the a/c started to not do the job as well as it did. So far can't find a leak but I have high hopes of getting to the bottom of the problem.

Our other problem now seems to be Heat, or lack of. This is a Freightliner issue. They did an overhead on it and after that the idle temp has been around 125 / 150 unless it is cold out then you might as well roll the windows down for heat. I had them replace the thermostat, thinking maybe it got clogged or something. That did not work. Will get it looked at this week while at home.

Wow!...all these problems on a new truck??

Although they don't seem to be providing very good service...I bet they were more than effecient at removing that $100,000+ from your pocketbook at purchase time?

You would think that someone in charge of these places would get involved with problems like this and get them fixed!!

Apparently not?

Well I cleaned up the ground under the sleeper and still no 12 volt power. There must be another ground somewhere inside. I changed all fuses. This ticks me off so bad. It is not bad enough that I have all the crap I have had lately with mechanical problems now I got htis damn sleeper without power. I must say. I love this business.
