So with an air cargo report like this and similar reports showing up in other freight sectors, how are things looking for expediters? We see what's in the news. What do y'all see on the ground and on your trucks?

Phil,
I'm doing well, if you can read this. I was told this afternoon at my pickup that they are trying to get things finished up before the end of the year, and this has been repeated a lot of times.

Our air charter business is steady but we were actually seeing stronger numbers in the 4th quarter.

If it doesn't, there's something wrong with the plane.

And that is where we come in, hauling replacement parts to the planes to keep them flying. The photos below are of the run we are currently on. The load consist of a full set of landing gear, a thrust reverser and fan cowling for a jet engine, and various other parts. All are from a DC-8 jet (one of many) being parted out and then scrapped at Roswell,NM. These will ship to south Fl. where they will be sold or leased out. Most all of these DC-8s that are being scrapped are from the 1950s and are no longer servicable for flight, yet many parts of the craft are and are much less expensive than new parts.

We are seeing a definate upswing in shipments since the beginning of 2010 to present. Air cargo both domestic and overseas has increased greatly. We see this not only in the aircraft parts we are hauling, but also the amount of freight we see stagged, loading and off loading at the air cargo areas we frequent. Planes that were flying at less than full capacity are now travelling at capacity. Planes that were parked in storage are being brought back into service. We are also seeing steady increases in our passenger air carrier movements. For us, more flights equal service hours on these jets running out quicker, more frequent breakdowns, etc. More revenue for us!

There are well over two hundred jets at this location, most slated to be parted out and scrapped. Some are in service, others are being stored until brought back in service.
