Those are beautiful and pretty unique! I saw it only once in Ontario on the 401. Still have the pics somewhere...:)

It was a very cool thing to see after the scary storm. My neighbors and I were doing yard cleanup when this appeared. In 12 years of living here, this is the only storm that sent me to the basement; my trees were bending and twisting, my roof was making popping noises. Afterwards, a house across the street had a tree dropped on it and everyone on that side of the road is still without power. Jeffman will be bringing his chainsaw over to take care of the four 15'-22' Cottonwood and Silver Maple limbs in my backyard that luckily did no damage to my house or outdoor furniture. I spent 5 hours yesterday cleaning up anything under 15' long. Got about 2/3 done. Whole storm took 5 minutes, but made a heckuva mess.

Did the sky turn orange up by you? Around the downriver area it turned bright orange after the storm. Nearly blinded me!

When I was a tornado spotter, there was another spotting group with which we weren't on friendly terms. That have us the impetus up laugh at their foibles, which were legion, seeing as they were incompetent boobs.

One day, as the storm was passing, one of them keyed up and reported that the sky behind the storm was orange. He went on and on, wonder in his voice, how he'd never seen that before. He went on so long, the repeater timed out on him, giving another spotter the opportunity to tell him, "That's the sun," something they were all wishing he'd shut up long enough for them to tell him about 3 minutes before. Everybody on the net heard it and had a good laugh over it.

Just a clear blue. Tornadoes: Mother Nature's Dyson.

My insurance agent called me July 1, asked about damage. He said adjusters in my area are reporting the damage from a " tornadic incident', NOT straight line wind. He also told me the damage began at the house behind me, so a tornado almost lit on my house.

He was sure I didn't have structural damage, because I didn't call him at home.."Get over here NOW! Bring your camera!"

(Not LOL. I woulda)

There was a spotter in Flint in the mid-90's who ALWAYS reported "rotation at Fenton and Atherton Roads" with EVERY severe storm.

Storm Spotting is not for the delusional paranoid...
