Affirmative action strikes again

Hey, this left off ANOTHER affimative action thingy that has been going on for YEARS in the military, fire service and police. Women, for the most part, do NOT have to meet that same physical strength standards that men do. Physical requirements for women are LOWER than they are for men. I guess that is a good idea too.

If you can't come up to grade, lower the standard. Why do we need the best for anything? Let's just "settle".

I'm not sure about the military but I do know that the fire department test is the same for men and woman alike.

You should have read the test questions that were deemed to be too hard, they threw the original tests in the trash and dumbed them down and the public school graduates still couldn't pass them.

This has been going on for better than a year.

Who cares whether they pass the application test as long as nobody's feelings are hurt. Nobody needs highly qualified police and fire applicants anyway.

There was a time I was trying out for a volunteer fire department. They had dozens of applicants for a couple openings. The day of the test, it was around 0F. They thought of calling it off but figured since volunteers have to answer calls in that weather, might as well have the test that day.

So during the interview they ask if I'm afraid of heights or ladders. They have to ask that, they say, because governmental guidelines mandate that they can't turn anyone away for being afraid of heights or ladders. That's considered a phobia or something and they have to take you anyway and offer you "treatment."

When a fire department has to take someone afraid of heights or ladders, the country has gone crazy. That's like hiring a lifeguard who's afraid of water. But that's what we've come to.
