A Really Strange Day!

Yesterday I was driving around Huntington Beach and guess what I saw? As I was driving around a parking lot I recognized a certain gold van with a rooftop AC unit on it. I was like it can't be. So I pulled up even closer and the van had Virginia plates, an OOIDA sticker on it, and it was a duramax diesel. Well, guess what? It was Phillip "60MPH's" old cargo van. I parked my car and walked up to the driver and asked him if he knew Phillip and he said no. He said that he had recently bought the van and drove down to Virginia to pick it up. The van still had a CB in it and most of the accessories that Phillip used when he was expediting. I don't know what the significance of something like that is, but out of every city in the United States, his van ended up here in Huntington Beach.

If I still had my cell phone I'd have taken a picture. It was very spooky for a minute, because I was hoping that Phillip had played a trick on all of us. Alas he wasn't there, just the vans new owner, or whoever has been in posession of the van since his passing. I wanted to drill the poor guy for more information, but I didn't want to seem like a nutcase. It just makes me feel really bad for how easily we forget people after they pass on. A lifes worth of modifications and love went into that van, and now it has been passed on like a piece of clothing, to someone who doesn't deserve it. It's sad, really sad. Also, this isn't a joke. I really saw the van. I would have been so happy to see Philip come out of that van. RIP,60MPH, we all miss you.

Why do you think the new owner doesn't deserve it?

Because he's not an expediter. He doesn't appreciate all of the gagets that the van came with. I think the van should have been sold to an expediter.

I want to know what kind of gadgets it has that only an expediter could appreciate.

A Webasto heater, a CB radio, a 4 bank battery deep cycle pack, a 3000 watt inverter, a built in bunk, a rooftop mounted AC unit with a permanent generator plug in on the side of the van, a honda 2000 generator, satellite radio, laptop stand, engine monitoring system that monitors every aspect of the engine and gives you check engine codes permanently affixed to the dashboard. I think that alone is 6k worth of additional gadgets that came with the van, let alone to know the way that van was serviced and maintained on a regular basis. I'd be proud to drive a van like that.

I would say that each one of those things would be very nice to have...even in a van purchased for recreation travel only. In fact, I'm betting he purchased that particular van because of all those extras.

It is somewhat normal to dislike seeing someone else enjoy the toils of a late friend or family member's toils. But, you have to remember that once any one of us leaves this world, the things we leave behind are just that...things. Your friend was apparently a really good guy. I suspect that he would be happy that someone is enjoying his old van. He might even take some pride in the fact that he built it nice enough for someone to consider it a recreational vehicle rather than a work van.

Yeah he probably would be happy that someone likes his van. He would however be mad if I got his van because I like to drive 75 MPH. He used to make fun of me all the time saying that I'm burning up my profits by speeding. It's hard to see someone else in his van that's for sure.
