A little confused...

I was just hoping someone could clear a few items up for me.

I guess I started looking online and into expediting because I really wanted to make a business for myself, where I had control over my future and where I could set the ground rules for myself. I'm not afraid of work. But I'd love to have a job where I could work around a schedule that I set, for the most part.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Maybe what I am really looking for is a courier type position where I run a few days/evenings a week on a dedicated route. I'd rather not be out 4 weeks at a time, with a wife at home and soon, a baby on the way.

What do you guys and gals think? Am I looking in the wrong places?

Thanks!

Eric

Warpath;

Please keep conducting research into the posts on the forums here at ExpeditersOnLine.com. Many, many posts have been made attempting to answer the age old question "Is Expediting for me?". Only you can determine if it is.

I have yet to speak with a solo Expediter , that told me he have a baby at home .
razing a wife&baby ,on an expediter budget ? ,don't say it can't be done , but in today market ? , it's to posh it.
add to that the need to be home ? , maybe it's time to consult Isaac Asimov .
the need to control your schedule ? , ain't going to happened ,in most cases , you run it once they hand it to you .
Making a business for your self ? absolutely ! , that's what we all do.
setting the ground rules for your self ? , this is a HIGHLY REGULATED industry , you don't bend the rules ,never, you work them to your advantage , it take years to master this part.
last : this is not a job , it's a small business .you make it your lovely hood .
Please feel free to ask anything , that's why we are here for , and use the search button on the top , to search the forum , tons of info. is right here.
many where in your position before and 'made it' in Expedite , you just need to be informed and prepared .
good luck , Eric !

Thanks for the replies.

I don't want to be misuderstood though. I've run a successful business in the past, and I had the opportunity to return to a job that I had passion for, which is counseling juvenile offenders. I love it, but the politics surrounding it has wore me out. I want to return to owning my own business, but wanted to start on the ground floor, and eventually work my way to owning, in this case, a number of trucks that I had others drive. I'm not alone, as my brother in law wants to get out of the cubicle farm and not work for the man. We're looking to start a business that would make money, and give us a little more control over our personal lives. I understand the regulations, hell, I used to sell insurance, and talk about regulations.

I just wonder if I'm thinking there is a difference between expediting and a courier service. Any input appreciated! Thanks again!

Eric
