For anyone who might be interested in learning a little bit about or getting a small insight into the "Shadow World" a visit to the National Cryptologic Heritage Museum would be a good place to start.
Much of the things that I speak of in these forums are able to be researched here. It is a real shame that a month long visit to this place is NOT required for high school graduation. THEN and ONLY then would people begin to get a small understanding of what REALLY happened during what you all know as the "Cold War". The reality of that "world" is NOT taught in schools. That is a very sad fact. That is how we are able to keep repeating the same mistakes that we made in the past.
That "Shadow World" that I, and many thousands of others, lived and worked in on a daily basis was a very scary place to live. That stress and fear took it's toll on many. Those who died pre-mature deaths, suffered break-downs and had their lives and families ruined are seldom considerd when counting the losses and deaths in defense of this Nation.
It is, for the most part, a part of history that, frankly, most don't want to know about. Most don't want to know or could handle the reality of how this world really is.
If you find yourself with time between runs in the area around Ft. Meade, MD, stop in. It is a part of YOUR National Heritage that most know little about.
