Well, I had something interesting happen! I met an older vanner with FedEx while fueling my van. He walked over and started talking with me about current business levels etc. He asked about the odd dish on my van, and I explained what it was. He then shook his head, and told me he doesnt even use a cell phone, doesn't like them.. the pager is good enough for him.. he then proceeded to show me, that sure enough, he still used the old qualcomm pager that beeps when you get a message at the QC!

Remember those? I didn't even know they still existed, or were in use! I'd be lost with out my cell phone.. no way would I want to be tied to running to the van everytime the pager went off!

I had a QualComm pager with that little braided antenna thing that hung off it. It wasn't very reliable.

I still have a few of those from when our trucks had them. I know it may sound crazy but they can still be a good thing to use. They always woke me up when a load offer came over the QC.

Back in the early ninety`s we used Radio Shack Car Alarm Pagers. Pretty good, had range of about quarter mile. Then came the Qualcom, Range about 300 feet. I went back to my old pager.

I have mine set up with the Page to the cell phone if a load offer comes in, and I forgot to switch it to phone call. That way, not running out to van only to find out it was a fleet message LOL.

Auto-Quik, what fond memories? That company cost me dearly.

That was the first carrier I was leased to, spent a year there, Cleveland to Detroit to Kokomo back to Detroit back to Kokomo back to Detroit etc.etc. deadhead home and start all over again on Monday
