Creating this thread to find out if I am crazy or do others do this as well.

I was driving on northbound us-23 this morning at 2:30 am. Went around a sharp bend when all of a sudden there was a car heading at me on my side or a 4 lane devided highway. After it had passed I got on the phone and called 911 and they got all the details and took my name and number but never heard back. About 3 miles up the road a state trooper flew by with out lights on.

I did this one other time last summer when heading out of Cincinnati on I-75 in stop and go traffic I happened to look over into the passing lane there was a woman with an infant in her arms and a 2-3 year old in the front passanger seat with out a booster seat or anything. I called 911 then also, and that turned into a little chase. The police had me follow her until they could get a trooper into position to pull her over.

So my hole point of this is do others do this as well and if so what are your stories? But I am not talking about accidents I know most of us will do that. I guess these two situations I felt as though someones life could be in danger so I felt it was my civic duty to call it in.

I have occassionally called 911 to report a wayward driver. The most recent went like this: I was following a car who was weaving all over the place. About ran cars off the rd coming in the opposite direction and about went off the rd several times. He was an accident waiting to happen. Called 911 and it was just a few min later that a statie flew by me & stopped him. Come to find out the guy wasn't drunk but was having a medical problem. Thank goodness he was stopped when he was because it not only avoided an accident with possible injuries or deaths, but this guy got the medical attention that he needed just in time.

I did it once in Florida for what I assumed was a VERY drunk driver. I guess it could have been a medical issue, but it was about 0300 and I'm gonna go with drunk. Gave vehicle description, plate number, my info and never heard another thing.

We have also turned in several things. Some being drivers and a few times a car on fire. Never have had a car coming at us on the wrong side of the road.

I called 911 last week to report a bycicle lying in the middle of the interstate. It had obviously fallen off of a moving truck. Was afraid it would cause an accident if not moved. Traffic was swerving to avoid it as it was right smack in the middle kind of in both lanes. Would have stopped to try to move it myself but by the time I saw it and could have gotten the truck stopped would have had to walk aways back and didn't think that would be safe to do.

I have made the call mane many times,
mostly for road hazard , accidents that just happened , and drunk / unsafe driving.
in most's cases i will not stop to help.
it is not my job , and i am not equipped or trained to help.
stopping a rig to help might create more hazard to others .
and unfortunately in today society there is the liability aspect.
i am faster on the trigger , when there are elderly or kids stuck on the side of the road , or when it is very cold .

I've called a few times. One time I saw a car cut off a semi and hit the brakes. The semi hit the car and sent it spinning into the median. It happened right in front of me and I was sure to tell the trooper that the car was being reckless and caused the whole thing. I don't know if I saved the trucker a citation or not, but I tried.

A few weeks ago I was coming out of Baltimore about 9:00 pm and there was a pickup truck towing a small enclosed trailer and the trailer lights weren't functioning. I came up pretty close before I even saw him because it was dark out and he had no tail lights. I called and gave a description of that vehicle and mine and stayed behind him with my flashers on until the cop got there, just to keep someone else from possibly rear ending him.

I've called a couple times when there was a broken down car on a ramp as well.

We've also called a few times. One night in IL, an elderly gentleman pulled out of the rest area headed in the wrong direction. Luckily, a trooper came just after he figured out he was going the wrong direction and was headed back into the rest area.
We called 3 times about a drunk on I80 in PA. Followed him for close to 50 miles and we got to our exit, still no trooper.
