65mph on OH turnpike

As expected, when the communist state of Ohio started losing money on the turnpike, they raise the speed limit, cut fuel costs, and maybe a reduction in the toll rates.
The money raised by the revenue rangers was not enough to offset the lost revenue from trucks bypassing the turnpike. Those idiots spent $200,000 in a study, flew their governor over Rt. 20 to figure why they were losing money.
They are opposed to same speed for cars and trucks while they are profiting.
State of Ohio should be ashamed.

If I lived there I would vote every one of them out of office.

Dave - you hit the nail on the head again. I do not understand how these people get into office. We do live in Ohio, and its too bad when a person sort of dreads going home because he has to drive extra miles in SLOHIO. With the split speed limits, troopers are really agressive towards the trucks also.

In my 18 years of expediting the only speeding ticket I have ever received was from the Ohio State Police.

I am not surprised on your only ticket. That is why I refer to them as revenue rangers. I lost all respect for them when we stopped to help a lady fix a flat, and 100 yards away one was sitting in the median clocking people. I was shocked he didn't come over and write us a ticket for not having our triangles out. I at least had the 4ways going.
I certainly do feel for the people that do live there. If they are using this kind of logic here, one can only imagine where else.

There are many states that have split speed limits...not just Ohio. I understand that there is a lot of frustration directed towards their supposed prejudice of trucks, but I have found just as much, if not more in states like Michigan. In fact, at least in Ohio the troopers have their parking lights on. In Michigan they hide in the dark like cowards.

There is a really easy way to fix this problem with the split speed limit states. It is not to rebel and buck the system. It is not to "join ooida." It is not to do anything like that. The solution is to obey the law.

Trite, I know, but hear me out. The speed limits are clearly a revenue generator. They know trucks, mostly, flow with the speed of traffic. It is safer that way. They let many trucks get away with it. But when a trooper wants to go out and "earn his piece" for the state, they bust a truck on the split speed limit. Now, the only way to effect legislation and extortion tactics on the part of the traffic enforcement is to hit them in the wallet. That's where it counts. So if you run legal, and dont speed, they cant give you a ticket, therefore revenue from speeding tickets goes down.

Now, once a significant impact is made on their revenue, they will pay attention to things like OOIDA and constituents opinions. It will become very clear then what the motive is behind split speeds, and it surely isnt "safety."

You have to play the game. You have to sort of 'go on strike' with speeding and try to put them out of business. They will be forced to rethink their gameplan. And I'm sure they will start going after more of these 4-wheelers that are nearly getting away with murder when it comes to speeding. Then once the general 'motoring public' starts noticing and increase of speed enforcement, maybe some registered voters will start asking the right questions like "how is Antwerp and Waterville funded?"

But all of this is just one man's opinion. Then again, I have never had a speeding ticket and asked to contribute my dollars to the State Trooper's Kid's Education Fund.

Wise man once say, "He who drives truck in white pants...soon drives truck in dirty white pants."

StayStrong,
Revenue has little to do with it, at least in Michigan. The troopers or local police don't care if you're driving with the speed of traffic as long as it's not obvious you're being a cowboy. The main reason there's a split speed here in Michigan is that the weight allowance is the highest in the country. I'd hate to say it, but it would be a scary thing if alot of these overweight trucks were allowed to drive 70. Yes, all the trucks slowing down may not get us speeding tickets, but there are plenty of other ways to jerk our chains. How bout impeding traffic? Troopers could get us with inspections if they wanted just revenue. So, ya see, most of it IS safety.
Ohio? Those troopers are just jerks :D

If all the trucks actually ran the speed limit in these split limit states instead of moving with the flow of traffic, Every major highway would be so jammed up that the phones in the governor's offices would ring off the wall. Four wheelers would be screaming for the state to raise speed limits for trucks. I agree, the solution is simple. Obey the law. If everyone did, it would cause more problems than these states could handle, and change would come pretty quickly. That's all I've got to say about that. - X

What I hate the most is going into California from Arizona where I can go 70-75mph down to 55 while the cars are still going 65. Like a few have said go the speed limit then when the accident rate goes up from cars running into the backs of slow trucks that might help change what people think about the rules too. I still dont see why we MUST stay in the right lane esp. if we are going really slowly it isn't good or safe with people trying to get onto the interstate. And like Chicago we cant take the express way we have to deal with all the cars entering from both sides. Oh sorry just me rambling today.

I agree if we all ran the posted speed,it would jam up the Interstates of our great land...Better yet, have half of the trucks running 1 MPH under, so there is allways slower trucks passing. The backups would be tremendious.

As with any of these states, the minute they are losing revenue, they will change. I think safety is a concern for them but clearly not before revenue. Look at Illinois. Their governor is so far out of touch with reality it isn't funny. He is clearly as about anti-trucking as one can get. Thankfully there are other congreeman ect that think he is completely out of touch as well.
On a side note; we seen a Ill state trooper that had a "ban split speeds" bumper sticker on his car. Wonder if he knew it was there?
