65 m.p.h. trucks in construction zones

Has this happened to anybody else much ? Pass a 65 m.p.h. truck where there's a 70 m.p.h. speed limit and then come to a 55 m.p.h. construction zone . Look in your mirror and here comes the 65m.p.h. truck down the left lane passing everybody just to show he can even if he is 10 m.p.h. over the speed limit . FedEx Freight semi's seem to be the worst offendors .

in early 70's work on county road crew fixing the pot hole picking up trash and other things and people don't realize or care about the workers on the side of road until someone gets hurt or killed
in some states if you speed in construction zones and get caught your going to jail and big fines
what is a couple sec more slower going to do , what about stop traffic ahead and you have to stop and can't more problems to add to
slow down and smell the rose
keep the speed limt

on friday in norfolk had a roll over on off ramp cause of problem
a truck taking ramp and cruve to fast and roll over and block street for over 5 hours and traffic back up all day for the detour

I agree 100% generally those doubles with big green lettering on white. Occassionaly I pass one but very rare. Their insurance has got to be sky high, and let em go on buy.

You hit one of my pet peves. It really bugs me when I'm headed through a construction zone and I feel like the jam car because I'm speeding but I'm still 20 mph slower than everyone else. What's up with that?

I ve done a good deal of concrete ready mix truck driving and have made many deliveries at roadside type places. If you see people out there working on the side of the road slow down!! When vehicles fly past you out there it is more than a little bit scary.

If the sign says 55 or 45 mph for a few miles is it really going to cost you that much of a delay?

In Mo. it costs 9 points, jail time and fines. What can possably be so important? Think of the fuel savings.

One of the worst places I have seen is north of Nashville where the construction speed limit is 45 on a highway that appears to be completed. If you try to go 45 mph you are creating a hazard because NOBODY is going 45 mph. It's frustrating.

I think your comment about the work appearing to be finished (and I've been through that area, too) pretty well defines the problem. Drivers who speed through a work site where there are people working should be charged with endangerment & jailed on the spot - but the problem is that there are so many signs posted, but absolutely no indication that there's any work being done, (sometimes I'll see a sign saying "end work zone" - but it's the first sign I've seen!), that people begin to disbelieve the signs, which is a bad idea. I've often thought that states that use the flashing lights on the signs, to indicate an active work zone, have the right attitude. I absolutely want to slow down in a work zone, because I've stood on the shoulder, & know how scary it is to have even four wheelers zooming by, much less the big trucks, & I sure don't want to endanger someone who's doing their job, because I don't want anyone endangering me - but neither do I want to drive at 45mph for miles for no apparent reason. Particularly when no one else is!
Flashing lights to indicate a need for compliance with the lower speed works in school zones, & I think it would work for construction sites too. Of course, I also think that common sense isn't a job requirement for any state official, so I'm not expecting anything to change. :+

It's also a fact that all of these 65mph trucks also have prepass. One day last week between Atlanta and the top of Mont Eagle, I must have passed a hundred of them. Then I got backed up behind a long line of trucks at the Manchester,TN scales and watched about 90 of that hundred ride by still doin' 65mph. When I finally got out of the scales, well from Manchester to Nashville, YOU EVER WATCH 2 65MPH TRUCKS RACE? All of a sudden they're sitting side by side but their speed has decreased to about 50mph. It never ceases to amaze me at what companies can hire for 25 cents a mile!

As a certified traffic control supervisor (i make the plans and install the cones and barrel devices in work zones) my thoughts are that as a Proffesional Driver, the gereral public will sometimes follow the lead of the truck drivers thru work zones, and just because there are not workers in your view, does not mean they are not there, in most sites nation wide, a TCS like myself has to inspect the site every hour and document it just like a trucker/driver does with the HOS, in short, there will most likely be workers in the site 24/7 and u must as a driver Be "Prudent" in the use of care and caution. so dont worry about the rear view mirror if you are the lead in a pack,, just lead, and lead safely so that I can go home at the end of My workday :)
