The average auto worker in the U.S. in 2010 earned $33.77 per hour in salary and benefits. That would be $70,241.60 based on 40 hours a week. Home every night. Sleep in your own bed. Eat at your own dinner table. Shower in your own shower. Adequate pay?

Oh, for those of you, and you know who you are, courtesy of Forbes Magazine website.

I'm guessing that figure includes benefits.

Very specific point in the form of a question, already included.

Yes, nice when you can get it and at least in times past, when my brother in law worked there, even nicer when you could get an "off the line" job like putting steering columns together or whatever. It paid 8 hours every day but when you completed your list for the day you went home. The best took only around 4.5 hours and pretty much all were gone within 6 hours but all still got paid for 8.

I used to work for close to that kind of money back in the 70"s.....when asked to work a double shift to service a line it took me about 5 hrs was paid 8 @ time and half.....those were great times....I have no problem with it if one can get a job like that.....as Ragman said....work smarter. You are paid for the skill you know, not the amount of physical work

come to think of it...I did an air charter the other night and made $126.00 an hour?....Adequate?

The problem we have here is, the OP was attempting to slam auto workers and didn't quite do it.

I was a Rubber worked...Firestone...Local 113.......you are paid for WHAT you know and your value to the company...why is it some figure you have to bust a gut to make a living....I rode around on a darn forklift all day! I was the guy sitting on the dock and said...."Not my job".....LOL

to raise a family of say 2 kids and have a stay at home mom....33 bucks an hour would just make things about right....remember that is BEFORE any taxes, Unemployment ins. and SS and union dues deductions.

Hahahaha. I do love the omniscients among us, especially when they are hilariously wrong, which is usually.

Sorry Leo..I missed your humor?.....why is it wrong to make a good living? why begrudge a fellow American to have a good life for his/her family?...

Well knowing how members on the political right hold auto workers in such low regards and consider their hard work as a drain on society, one would think that is what the OP was for.

I have a relative that can do $500 per day on OT as an electrician.
He seldom does less than $2000 per week as an employee.
Lots of 12-14 hour days.

We're happy for him.
