2018 Hino 195 Keeps needing a forced regen

I bought a used Hino about 1 year ago. At the time, i bought it from Ryder and they said it needed a new PM sensor but it was on back order and they said they would repair it once it comes in (still hasn't happened).
It's in light use - I have been driving it twice a week for my business. Sometimes it will sit for a full week. The check engine light is on most of the time, but i thought it was related to the PM sensor.
Anyway, twice in the last few months i've had to have it towed as it goes into Turtle Mode and i'm unable to manually initiate a regen. Once i take it to mechanic, all he does is force a regen (using his scanning tool) and it works again. However, check engine light remains on.

Any suggestions? It is currently working but these towing bills really hurt and i'm at the point where i don't have confidence i'll make it across the city. I'm considering buying a $500 scanning tool myself so i can least force a regen to get home from wherever the truck has broken down.
Thanks!
