2011 Season

The season is off to a good start for us.While at the house this week getting the boat and p-up ready for the waterfowl season, this guy stumbled across us and my son knocked him down.
Had no plans to even deer hunt this early. Kinda of a last minute thought to go out. Not a wall hanger but he will fit in the freezer :D

Yep it was a tough decision,,no freight on the truck and sit in a parking lot or go home. Guess which one I picked....

Anyways not sure where your at but if your near home,,shut it down... We got room for 2 more guns for Saturday morning and you know your more then welcome to come out..Minutes away,Grass Lake area..

No where near home. Wish I could be. October is a good month so we will stay out. Same plan as last year. Come home just prior to the rifle opener, hunt up north for a few days, then hunt duck until Thanksgiving, then out at it again.

Unless I hit a lottery or something.

I wish it was.

I am SO ready for duck season. I lost ALL of my waterfowl ammo last year in a basement flood. I now have a fresh stock of "magic ammo". It is almost impossible to miss when using the stuff! It is, of course, MADE IN MICHIGAN!!

I am shooting 1 1/8 oz of #5 steel at 1700fps. It flat SMOKES decoying ducks!

I get it from the guy on the link below. He is about 200 years old but another guy is going to buy him out soon. I tried to buy him out in Sept be he had already promised his neighbor.

This is REALLY good stuff! His web site sucks. The shells are under $20 a box. Compares well to other high end steel but outperforms everything else I have tried.

I have never been deer hunting but have wanted too. I was on the rifle team in high school and I'm a great shot as my VP of Operations and sons found out. We was shooting a 45 hand gun out back on my land and they was shocked how good a shot I am. I told them I was a better shot with a rifle. Jim wants me to go up to Michigan to hunt, as he from Monroe, Mi. Maybe John Elliott is a hunter and would go hunting too. I bet John is a great shot from his days in the Army.

Deer hunting is a LOT of fun. It is my second most favorite type of hunting. Duck hunting is #1 for me.

Target shooting and shooting while hunting is just a bit different. The basics are the same. In real life shooting you often don't get time to get into a "perfect position" for the shot. You also have the "buck fever" to deal with. I have seen buck fever all but disable a full grown man and turn him into a babbling baby. It is SO funny to watch.

I don't know about the army making one a good shot. When I went in I had been shooting far longer than my instructor and could outshoot him from day one. Could have done even better had I had a REAL rifle rather than the M16. LOL! What a piece ot junk that rifle was!

Michigan has a fine tradition for hunting.

Sorry it took so long to post our results for the our opener but this was one of those weeks that computers and the internet didn't interest me.
Layout,Ya may have been right when ya posted the season was lining up for one of the best seasons in a long time. Everyone limited out by Sunday afternoon. Best opener I can remember for the Lower.Could not have asked for a better day,
We also had an outdoor wedding at the same location we hunted followed by our annual hay ride that night.Great day in the field and also for the newlyweds,,they got sheet lucky to have such good weather this late in the year..
Not many pictures for some reason this year, below is about the best ones that came out. No dogs this year due to we didn't want muddy dogs jumping on the wedding guest so we keep at them home this year. That part kinda sucked but still a good weekend.

Looking good! No one I know has even gone out yet. In fact, talked to Dick Sunday, they have not even put the boats in the water yet. They may go in this weekend. No divers down yet.

If this weather holds on they will be filtering in soon if it stays this cool.
If their is no freight this weekend I'm heading back to the house and hitting the pond again, one more time before gun season gets in. Then we will leave it alone for the rest of the year (unless the mallards hit it hard and heavy during the migration) and just use the fields nearby for late goose season.

The week of Halloween is the traditional "peak" of the diver migration on the River. That has been a bit more spread out over the last several years. I plan on being home around Nov. 10-11. We well go up north for a couple days then hunt duck. Hope it is more consistent than last season. Last year we would have one good day then a few bad ones.
