Being that I not only embrace the mundane, I live it to the fullest. "Awesome" is not in my vocabulary. 3 locations come to mind. Although not awesome, these did register as slightly out of the mundane and I have pictures.

-The spring floods in northern North Dakota and southern Manitoba resulting in a long detour to and from Winnipeg, eh!

-A Sunday afternoon at the beach at Panama City Beach while back home my wife reported 2 early October snow falls.

-The rest area north of Alliance, Neb. on State Hwy. 87 because of the fresh air, cleanliness and unobstructed views. Jay Call would be appalled.

I'm going with number 2, the Panama City Beach, beach. I could use another day on the beach embracing the sand, sun, ocean and of course the mundane.

Edwards Air Force Base. Getting the opportunity to drive out on to the very runway where those test pilots flew from, where the sound barrier was broken and where the shuttle has landed was awesome. Having pieces of an exploded shuttle on my truck on that load was humbling.

For us,it has to be Minneapolis-St Paul. We have had several great loads to there this past year, and never had a bit of problem getting great loads out. :D

The most poignant for me was entering Dover Air Force Base as a hearse was leaving. Absolutely chilling.

I can not even imagine what you must have felt. Knowing that it was most likely a person who volunteered and died to protect you and the Nation. It is often easy to forget that we are at war. We owe those brave people our very lives.

Bangor Maine, I delivered way out in the country, some machine parts to a guy who builds blueberry picking equipment, the view in that area was beyond words. Maine is a beautiful state, p s , I must have been the only courier driver there, I did not see one courier truck for 3 days..wow..great place..

Zanesville OH I have been on a dedicated run for the past few months and I have had my weekends off. During those days I got hooked up with two ham radio clubs and I got my tech ham lic and got it upgraded to a general lic. The guys invite me out to their meetings so I get to meet other folks that are into the hobby. They also helped me set my radio up help with antennas etc. Sometimes on the weekends when I don’t have anything to do one of them will call me on the radio and ask if I want to go into town to get me out of the truck. And the Loves here where I park they know my likes and dislikes I have a certain shower that I like to use and even if 4 of the showers are clean and the one I like isn’t they get right on it and clean the one I like. They joke about this place being my home because I have been here so long I get my mail here lol. So Zanesville OH for me has been the best place I have been for 2009

Provo, Utah at sunrise. Late spring, with hot air ballons in the background. Truly Awesome.

Although we made it home for the holidays, we first thought we would be spending it down at Miami International Airport on standby for inbound jet enjines flying in from overseas. Its an awesome place to hangout and watch as the jets fly past and land. The Miami skyline makes for the background past the runways.

While we were waiting at the security gate Saturday to enter the cargo area and deliver an engine, we witnessed what must have been a heart pounding landing for a major named passenger jet. The location we were stagged was alongside where the jets turn off of the runway and taxi back to the terminal. We could see the jet's landing lights come on out over Miami Beach as it was on final approach. Ahead of it were seven fire trucks and other emergency units racing down the runway. Two fire trucks stopped straight out from us on the runway while the others stopped farther up the runway and waited as the passenger jet landed. We could not wonder what was about to unfold before our eyes. We could not help but fear the worst. Were we about to witness the crash of a jet full of holiday travelers as we sat alongside of the runway?

We held our breath, watched, and waited silently as the jet touched down. It quickly approached where the two fire trucks were stagged on the runway and came to a hard stop. The fire trucks then quickly circled the jet several times to inspect it before releasing it to continue hastily to the passenger terminal to off load, with fire trucks following closely behind.

Obviously the hand of God was with these holiday travelers as they safely made it to their destinations!

For a brief moment, I believe I was transported to the parallel existential universe of Mootology, an odd place but magically wonderful where things as diverse as an auto flush toilet and pocket lint are transformed into life altering deep mental experiences. Everything was either in Technicolor or stark black and white. When I came out of it I had no idea how I had gotten there or..... why I was standing shirtless on top of my van with an open jar of mayonnaise. All I know is it was surreal, and, I'm not allowed in the state of Iowa anymore.

Peace be with you all.

Biltmore House in NC. It's absolutely amazing.

During my tenure with Midwest Coast Transport, I ran a dedicated
foliage run out of Florida. The Biltmore was one of my regular seasonal customers. Most all of the indoor holiday plants placed throughout the house and outdoors plants placed on the porches and patios was grown in the Miami area and hauled in by me. It was one of my favorite places to deliver, even though it really wasn't designed for a tractor pulling a 53' reefer trailer. In fact I had to drive over a hand laid stone bridge onsite that was never designed for the weight of a T/T. Had to hold my breath and hope for the best! LOL

If you've never been there, it's definately a must see, especially during the holiday season!!!

Delivered a load the friday before the 4th of July...I drove my van onto the football field at the New Orleans Superdome and delivered some speakers to a concert that was happening that weekend. If it's anything to anyone John Legend was rehearsing for the concert that night and I got to go backstage and listen...good singer too by the way....It was some kind of Festival that I can't remember the name of. But the best thing was driving my van onto the field where Drew Brees, Reggie Bush, Manning and countless others have played. It was so awesome being right in the middle of the field.....drove right into the superdome...pretty darn cool:D

The Naval base where I just delivered tires for an expedition to Antarctica: Port Hueneme, Ca. Saw some amazing ships, and even got within about 40 ft of some harbor seals - too cool! They wouldn't cooperate for photos, though, just stayed in one big shapeless pile, sleeping.
