2006 Goals

Being that we are all business owners have you taken the time to readjust or just make new goals for this year?

Last year was absolutly a great year for comming out of the blocks, I need to thank anyone who helped me along in my journey especially Terry, LBD, Dave C, Tennessee Hawk, Dreamer just to mention a few.

My goal is not really a one year but two year to pay this loan off on my truck. I just refinanced it to a 6.75 did not add any additional months just kept the payment amount the same. Once this is paid for and from the advice of many here I continue to maintain (baby it) I really look forward to staying in this truck for years to come.

My other goal to accomplish this year is to start saving again for long term, I have no plans on retiring sounds to boaring to me right now.

Every Journey needs a map, everytrip has a goal, I wish you all the very best in your yearly and daily Journey's.

Broom...My goal is to take even more time off. I don't yet know if I'm easing out of trucking, or that I will gear up to get the dream truck sometime in the future. It's a transition period for me, to see how far I want go and in what direction. I never worked winters in all my trucking years, and whatever I do, I'll still shut down mid Dec. to mid March.

Today I would say finding another reliable truck.
We have had a few days that I think I am asking too much?
That aside, I think 06 will be a good year.
Plannning on upgrading equipment through the year

Hi Broom,

My immediate, short term financial goal is to get back to where I had 6 months in reserves like I did before I switched companies & bought a Sprinter. This will be a little tougher because before I only needed about $1000/month to live on, where as now I need over twice that.

Tentatively, by March I think I can have everything paid off except for my van. Once that money is freed up, depending on how I do this year, I'd like to think I can have most of this van paid off by December. I'd also like to sell my home & buy a new one.

After Wed's USC/Texas game, I'll pretty much be in service every day until spring. That's where staying local is kind of nice. When ya travel, sometimes ya just want to be home. Ya either take a run or ya don't if it's to another state. I have something I want to do on Saturday nites. Being local though, I'll gladly work until 6PM or so if the freight is avialable. Come spring I'll want a few days off & then back at it.

Hopefully I stay busy enough to make it all happen. We'll see how things pan out.

Physically, educationally, & such I have different goals. It'll be a pretty neat feeling if I accomplish em & even if I don't the process of trying will be a lot of fun.

My goal is simple I want to own 3 more trucks by years end all paid for.

I want every expedite load that I haul on any of those 3 trucks to pay at least $1,500 and for back-hauls I want at least 1.25 per mile.

the breaks over time to get back to work.My first load for 06 come from con-way now 1,800 on 914 miles.one down 300 more to go.

so much for the slow period gump is still hopen.

now thats goal my dreams are somewhat different.
My dream is to build the most productive one man operations centers in the usa.to do away with deadbeat dispatchers and find agent/owner ops
that are only interested in running themselves and the trucks they own.

When I bid farewell to '05 I also asked that it not let the door hit it in the rear-end on the way out. Business wise, it was littered with way more than it's share of B.S. I kept my composure and maintained the necessary polite attitude, but there were a couple of times I may have seen the edge. This was topped off with being "down-sized". It is frustrating to be told you've done a good job, you're a good guy, now, buh-bye.

So, on to '06. It seems to be starting out O.K. I'm up early in anticipation of signing on with my new carrier and was able to find enough functional outlets in my plush motel room to get this done and have light. I'm sticking with a small company. I did like that personal feel.

Winston Churchill said to "never give up, ever", or something like that. I guess a person really needs to be careful about when that goes from being excellant advice to being just plain bull-headed. So on the subject of goals, I guess mine is to not let "the Man" get me down and keep plugging away.

On a personal note, my boys have reached that age where you have to hope they make the right choices. In '05, they both made decisions that I did'nt agree with. But, they're both good kids and I think they will be O.K. I could have gone a couple of more years on the whole grandfather thing.

Well Bryan, those are lofty goals for someone that likes to spend half the year sitting around the house. 50 more days out would almost put you at part time. Even though I'm heading into uncharted waters, I'll take you up on the bet. However, that's assuming my drug test comes back O.K. today. Crack flushes out quickly, does'nt it?

I've heard that the nice thing about grandchildren is that they go home. When I went to the Christmas Eve party my friends have every year, I was offered the rocking chair as soon as I walked in the door.

My short term goal is to build up the savings that I depleted last year. 05 was my first year as an owner/operator, & it was great to find so much advice & help here, especially when you're spending soooo much money! Thanks to everyone who helped me spend it (I think) wisely.
My long term goal is to be successfully self sufficient, and I expect to get further down the road in that direction in 06.
Like my tag line (which also happens to be my favorite song, not to mention my job,) says..........

Lots of Financial and Business type goals for 2006,nothing wrong with that,optimism is a good thing.

My Goal for 2006 is to WAKE UP EVERY DAY. LOL

Every day above the dirt is more or less a good day. After my short term goal, which is to get this year started loaded. I would lke to up my availability by several percent. That should be easy since I no longer have my FL70. I have a small amount of debt that I don't like hanging over my head so that has to go this year. I have a business plan with other goals as well but would make this long post much longer. After my business goals I plan to make better use of the time off that I do have to do some things I never seem to have the time for .... like fishing.
