Hi everyone,
I'm still having problem choosing between ford- gm cargo vans and would appreciate any help.

Ford e 350, 6l turbo diesel, v8, 2005 ,107 km---14000$
2002 ford E350, 7.3, v8,turbo diesel ,215000km---7000$and another 2003, 7.3, 220000km for 7500$
2005 chevy express 3500,v8, 6l, 89000.--14000$
or another 2007, ford E350, 6l, 8v,190000km--16000, and 2005 f 350,6l, v8 power stroke 8cyl diesel,128000km--16000$
all of the above are diesel engine, and some comes with 3 years power train warranty(engine + trans).
what would you pick?
I have to buy one by next week.
Thank you so much.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Ford 6 l diesel.

The Chev gasser would be a good starter van. Cheap to fix and it will get reasonable fuel mileage if you drive it right.

If you have your heart set on a diesel Ford, the 7.3 is a good reliable engine. The 6.0 was a disaster and the new 6.4 is better but very $$ to fix.

If the Chevy is a diesel it's either a 6.6 or 6.5 L diesel. The 6L is a gasser. If its a 6.6 it will be a Duramax and should have nameplates on the door that say Duramax, I can't remember what year the vans switched from the 6.5 to the 6.6. The 6.5 was a good engine and got great fuel mileage but there were issues with the injection pumps. The Duramax has been a great engine, I own one in another truck and it has been flawless in 240,000 km.

Make sure you read the warranty that they are offering very carefully. Some aftermarket warranties have low mileage coverage (which if you expedite you will burn through those miles very quickly) or they have limitations on commercial use. Very rarely will they be good enough to truly offer you complete total coverage for 3 years. Does the warranty pay for repairs up front or do you have to pay then seek re-imbursement? How easy is it going to be to get coverage if you break down in some little town in the US, or Quebec?

Make sure you go in with your eyes open.

All that said, from what you have told me, I would buy the Chev.

I'm with Piper on this one. Chevy.

Hi guy's

I found one ford 350, 7.3 with low mileage 154000$ and its diesel, they are asking the same price as the chevy, even though I like the idea of diesel but again having a gas engine means beeing able to fix it anywhere, we end up paying in a way or another.
any idea how many mile do i get on gas?
do you guy's drive a cargo van, and is it gas or diesel? if you don't mind me asking?
thanks again
Rey

Without getting into the Ford vs. Chevy thing I chose a Chevy in 1998 and another one in 2004. If most things were equal between the two, Chevy wins out over Ford because of the long wheelbase on the extended vans. Better ride, handling and load placement options.

Check out ryder truck sales. They have plenty of 2003's with decent mileage on them, some as low as 125,000 miles on them. 2003 was the last year the 7.3 was offered. I bought one from them awile ago and love it as well as doing business with them. They have exceeded every one of my expectations. The van looks perfect, no rust anywhere, interior immaculate,Runs strong, does not use oil, complete maintenance history from new, 30-day nationwide warranty.
