Re: 1st geo hall of fame memeber

No offense to Lawrence, but when I think of Hall of Famers, the name that comes to my mind is Glen Rice.

Any updates on his condition ?

I don't know the Lawrence M story.
It'd be interesting to read a history of expediting. Possibly someone with some time on their hands might like to blog about notables in Expedite History or notables on this sight. There must have been some in the past with interesting stories. A few current members here too.
Or, the history of the site and how it all came together.

Or has this been done in the past ?

Re: 1st geo hall of fame memeber

He is the first expeditor I actually ever heard about.
His awesome truck brought a lot of attention to this segment.
His horrific crash brought a lot of attention.
He must have put a lot of effort into his expediting.

I'm sure there are other pioneers. Notanewbie and Glen are the only two this recently new addition is aware of.

Thus my question about learning a little history.

Glen is out of the hospital, medically cleared and driving again. They cleaned the blood clots out of his heart and lungs and he is feeling better than he has in a long time because his breathing is improved. What was first called heart failure was something else less serious. Now knowing the dangers, he is driving less miles per day and taking time to walk to keep new blood clots from forming in his legs and floating off to settle elsewhere.

What was first called heart failure was something else less serious. Now knowing the dangers, he is driving less miles per day and taking time to walk to keep new blood clots from forming in his legs and floating off to settle elsewhere.

How are his legs doing A-Team? Some people are lucky (if you can call it that) in the fact that the clots they form immediately move from the lower extremities to their lungs, without being in the lower extremities long enough to cause any significant damage. That's not to say that there hasn't been any damage done to his lungs or heart. I was having breathing problems for a few years before I got the massive DVT in my right leg. I think I was throwing clots for quite some time before they actually caused significant damage to my body. Also, I hope they plan on keeping him on blood thinners for a lot longer than 6 months. Once you start throwing clots you need to be properly monitored for future clots.

A lot of people who develop blood clots will at some point in their lived develop them again. It's not always the driving that causes the clots. A lot of times it's a genetic predisposition, or even a drivers age that causes them to get blood clots. I wish they would test drivers for FVL, Hughes Syndrome, and all of the other genetic clotting factors that are out there. You have to remember that it is highly unlikely for a normal healthy person to throw a blood clot just because they are driving for long periods of time. Yes it can happen, but it is usually caused by a traumatic injury, or an underlying genetic predisposition.

If you want to help protect yourself from clotting while driving, you will need to purchase some medical grade compression stockings, stop every 2 hours and walk around to get your calf muscles pumping that blood, and stay hydrated. I'd advise you to take a baby aspirin, but that is only successful in preventing blood clots in the arteries. Blood clots in the veins are an entirely different animal.

As a lot of you know I gave up the pain meds for a week or so and started exercising. Well, the pain got so bad again that I can't even walk around, or perform any normal daily tasks without taking the pain meds. My leg will not get any stronger than it has been for the past 17 months. I am always in pain. I have now accepted the fact that I'm going to be in pain for the rest of my life. The pain has really changed my former happy-go-lucky personality. I'm pretty much a very angry person most of the time these days. Please be mindful of your bodies out there. Don't hesitate to get an ache or pain checked out. I don't want to see anyone else go through what I had to go through. Any how, I'm glad they saved Glenn's life. I really hope he continues to improve.

I wouldn't vote for him for President because he had a nice truck.

I noticed expediting and that lead to probably 25 plus years of expediting by 5 family members at my recommendation.

I imagine 100's of people saw his truck and said " I got to check into expediting."

Some may also be current members.

I also salute the early pioneers that had to listen to a wife scream " You're going to do WHAT??" after telling them they are leaving a good job to go "small, in unchartered territory."

I might. Any dude with a nice truck that ran for president would probably get my vote. You would vote him into George's Hall of Fame because he had a nice truck. I wouldn't!

Was Glen Rice the impetus that caused you to notice expediting?

I can imagine thousands of people stumbling across E.O. and saying: "I got to check into expediting."

I don't know what your definition of "pioneer" is. Mine is a person that blazes new territory. For expediting this would include some of the original organized expediters. Here is a quote from another thread:
Minster Oh To Kenwood Mi, Oct 1988, Ford E250
I don't know if redytrk considers himself a pioneer, but I do. He's got at least 10 years on Mr. Rice in the expedite field. Redytrk is so humble about his contributions to expediting that for many years he wore a paper bag over his head to avoid notoriety.

Glen Rice was the Overdrive media darling in the 1990's. He was the go to expert on everything trucking. When he started expediting in the late 1990's he instantly became the expediting expert.

Lawrence McCord owns a media company, yet one hardly hears of his expedite exploits, expertise or the history of E.O. He could be tooting his own horn daily, but he doesn't. Gosh, I wonder why that is? Could it be his humble Canadien upbringing? I got a brief history of E.O. many years ago from Bob Worthington. I also got a genealogical synopsis of Bob and Lawrence's dogs, who were siblings. It would be great if Lawrence chucked his Canuck humbleness and posted a bit of the origins of E.O. I believe most members would find this history interesting.

If I were to vote for inductees into George's Hall of Fame, Lawrence, redytrk and a bunch of others would get my vote before some media darling with a nice truck.

Re: 1st geo hall of fame memeber

Moot, maybe I have Redytrk and NotNewbie confused.
One of them had the first reefer expediter I believe.
As said in post 2, the history would be good to read.
Maybe if I knew more history, Lawrence would have gotten my first vote.

Looks like he made it in on the first ballot anyway.

Re: 1st geo hall of fame memeber

to make it short and simple, lawrence has been around long enough to have been an early expediter at roberts express. he would be in a short group of those who basically were the founding members of expediting. there are others in that group that should be recognized also. after all if it wasnt for them we wouldnt be doing this.

so yes, its all their fault !!!!!!!!! LOL

congrats, lawrence my friend !!!

Re: 1st geo hall of fame memeber

I've learned a bit about the history of expediting just from this thread, though would like to learn more.

A history, including how EO started as well as more on early expediters like Lawrence himself, would be wonderful.

Very cool that Geo's Hall of Fame, and this thread, is helping that history be told.

Congrats Lawrence, and thanks Geo!

How many current members are from the Roberts Express group ?
