    1st Week Of New Hours

Quote:If this stays this way it will actually be better for solo this way.Drive 10-11 hours, sleep all night, deliver the next morning,i can do that all week long. Quote: One good thing about running alone for the last twenty years the 10 and 11 hour hops are just another day at the office.In...

    Tracking software for expenses

The physical (12 envelopes) method is straight forward and simple. I would probably want to sit down on a regular basis and add the envelopes (monthly if not more often) onto a spreadsheet so that I could track my expenses (cost per mile). That way you can know how different variables...

    Transport Straight Truck?

Hey BigDiesel....Congratulations on the purchase. What kind of truck did you end up buying? Class7 or 8? Engine, miles etc?

Thanks Leo...its good to plan for conservative numbers as its more fun to be surprised on the upside than the opposite. Also, are the average miles you posted loaded or do they include dead-head. I plan to include 15%-18% deadhead (without factoring in personal d/h miles).

    PATHER II

Leo, Is 1600-1800 miles per week your "real world" average for solo? I have been given 2200-2500 miles per week (average for a solo) by Conway Now and I suspect that is simply recruiting spin....in other words maybe some solos do those miles on occasion but they do not represent real life...

    Con_way Now ??

Nightflight, Did I understand you correctly....will Conway Now hire you as a T/T (E) O/O with no experience right out of drivers school? Also...I would definitely stay away from flatbeds if you have an "at risk" back. Too much climbing around unless you can find a company that is 100%...

    Con_way Now ??

Tim...you might continue to explore expedited freight as a solo. There are some companies that will run solo's much better than others. You can still look at a volvo (stretched) running D loads and figure the lifetime and maintenance costs of a class 8 at 80K miles per year(expedited) vs that...

    Con_way Now ??

Nightflight....do you have a good idea of what your costs will be? That will be a big determinant of whether the Conway numbers will look good to you. Also, what miles are they giving you as the average for an 'E' truck? Here are some costs that I compiled in my research (only research at this...

LDP - Question from previous post

Sheesh...I wish people would re-read what they type before hitting the send button....it might help some of the ti-poh's (oops typos) and some of the butchered grammer. I'm not sure what miko meant either, x06col. According to your figures, $121K gross @ $1.62 averages to ~6250 miles per month...

    trucks for sale

The only way to get to 56K GVWR would be to spit the axles by minimum of 8 feet. Then you could have two 20K legal axles. I would assume a front drive with a pusher 8'1" behind. My question...has anybody out there done that? If so what have your results been? Such things as: ride quality / max...

    Developing the business plan

ClasicOne.... thanks for your detailed and informative reply(s). I did not incorporate downtime costs into the spreadsheet and should. Living expenses and additional APU fuel need to be incorporated and add up to on road expenses. Does your avg gross yearly number include FSC revenue? Also my...

    NO - FSC ?

BigDiesel, As an example, both Conway and Express-1 offer ~80 cpm PLUS FSC. They also include QC costs of $35 per week which equates to 1.9-3.5 cpm based on your 1000-1800 mileage numbers. So your effective revenue is 76.5-78.1 cpm. For FSC....subtract $1.25 from todays avg fuel price and divide...

    Developing the business plan

Doug, that is a very good point you make and I will add driver costs into my business plan spreadsheet. An important reason is that if you are down for injury or extended illness and have to put a driver into the seat then you would need to know that the business could survive even with driver...

    Developing the business plan

Thanks for your reply Leo. I value yours and all drivers who have "been down that road" already!! Another question: how many "days away from home" do you average to meet an 8,000 mi/mo average? I understand this would be a rough guess but I am not too sure about the number of days spent waiting...

    Developing the business plan

Hello to all.... I am in the process of developing a business plan to see if it makes sense for me to transfer my sweat and effort into expediting. I recognize the talent and experience that is out there on this forum and I wanted to ask several questions to make sure I am not in fantasyland...
