    My continuing job

We have 3 boys, and I'm still amazed at how different they all are. My oldest is the supervisor at a landscape/irrigation company. He's a dad too and his fiance is a darlin. My youngest....my youngest...he's still in search of himself and he's 23. I wish I could be so free.

    Shamed by Newbies

Phil, Even after typing all of that....as I said before, luck still has a place in this business. No amount of planning, spreadsheets, past history or looking into the crystal ball will tell a person that a load is going to cancel. That's luck..good or bad

    Comfort Food

That's a great tip AK! We are allways looking for new ideas out here. As far as the blender, have you tried mixing it up without a blender? I wonder if it would work?

    Shamed by Newbies

Expediting does have a little luck involved. No matter what the graph/spreadsheet/experts say...we got the load Rock Hill, SC to San Diego, CA, we're loaded, paperwork signed, load secured, shut the doors, the load cancels. Luck?

    My continuing job

"He's such a dork" is a common joke between us. All these things he's done successfully, we used to tease him because we could get him lost just by making a few turns. Heck, we figured when he got his regular drivers license he'd leave the house and we'd never see him again LOL He's a turned...

    My continuing job

My middle son is 24 years old, a dad, a deputy in Collier County Florida, and a former MP with the 82nd Airborne Division US Army. and he still calls me when he needs to find information about something!!! Sunday, he and his girlfriend were headed for Busch Gardens in Tampa, he calls and says...

    Am I the only one?

I agree on this one! We were visiting my mother and I mentioned that I wanted to see the local news. She said why, the local news is more commercials and "see our website" than anything. She doesn't have a computer, she's hardnosed and says, I've gotten along for 64 years without one just...

Should I get into expedited trucking?

What do you do now? What would you be leaving behind? Expediting is a lifestyle not just a job.

    GPS Systems

Turtle, you are correct in my case, you said "People want to buy a GPS unit, set the unit for a truck of their height so that it won't route them under a low bridge, and be done with it." That was what I was hoping for...since it doesn't have that capability, I'll stick with the old fashion...

    GPS Systems

Thanks for the input everyone :) I'm thinking at this point, until the prices come down significantly, we'll just continue to use the atlas and streets and trips.

    GPS Systems

Does GPS routing software have low clearance information? Right now we don't have GPS, we just use Microsoft Streets and Trips and check the motor carrier atlas for clearances. I was just wondering if it was worth getting a GPS unit. We are in a 13'6" straight truck.

FINALLY SAID GOOD BYE TO PANTHER

We've never had dispatch talk to us in an unfriendly manner. They don't always tell us what we want to hear, but that's life. Makes me wonder if it's how they are spoken to that makes the difference?

    Whites turning Gray!

I use Stain Stick by spray n wash and that stuff removes those "oil looking spots" that t-shirts and sweat shirts get that nothing seems to remove. It works even on old stains. Found some socks at Walmart that have black bottoms! LOL Should work great for the truck.

RE: Women in Trucking - am I too old at 55 to take Heck, trucking in general is the one profession that seems to attract older people. As long as you can pass a DOT physical...age doesn't matter out here! GO FOR IT!!

    MOTORCYCLE RIDING

My hubby does NOT need to read this post! He has a Yamaha V-Strom that he tucks into bed each time we leave home LOL We hauled the recruiting trailer for the last company we worked for and at the time we had a Kawasaki Nomad that we hauled with us. If we ever are in a position to buy our own...

    Drivers Education

When I took drivers education we took it for a semester. We had to have our lerners permit before taking the class. First 9 weeks was classroom learning the rules and driving on the range. We had vehicles donated by auto dealerships for us to use. They weren't new cars, but they were kept in...

    JUNG EXPRESS LOAD ISSUE

Using Panther as an example...why would they broker a load to another company if they had a driver available? This doesn't make any sense to me. I would think that it would eat into the profit of the load because of another "layer". Could someone please explain this to me? What am I missing...
