Tucker Carlson defends Truck Driver in Tracy Morgan crash

This isn't just a heavyweight problem. Even an empty CV can do more than its share of damage if you fall asleep behind the wheel. On a long trip, better allow some rest time. If the freight is that tight that you can't afford a break, it shoulda gone by air to begin with-- besides, it won't get...

Vans and cargo trailers-- don't do this.

You also need to know how to properly load a trailer. Load the trailer tail-heavy, and--- you'll be sorry! It has to be loaded so at least 10 percent of the loaded trailer weight is on the tongue. For rough estimate-- if your trailer is loaded so the trailer weighs 5,000 lbs, the tongue needs to...

Vans and cargo trailers-- don't do this.

This wasn't well thought out by anybody. People think that because tractor-trailers do it, you can do it with a van pulling a cargo trailer. It's not the same thing. First, the TT is built for the job. The fifth-wheel is positioned right over the drive wheels. My van would have the connection...

Vans and cargo trailers-- don't do this.

I had thought to put this in Dreamer's thread, but this doesn't properly fit there because that thread is about overloaded straight trucks. Finding the threads about vans towing trailers could take awhile and this doesn't properly fit there because it's about a seriously overloaded rig--- well...

    They DRIVE among us...

I wonder if he ever heard of a CAT scale. Or, failing that, if he ever heard of what happens when you fail miserably at the state-police weigh scales? "Whoopie Doopie, this ain't gonna be cheap!" I obviously don't drive a large straight, but-- I do have an interest in making sure I don't lose...

I've just realized something about the Ford cutaways and cab chassis...

I know that you can have light, bulky loads, and heavy dense loads. My problem is that the big (by my standards anyway) box invites you to put something in it, and seeing a payload rating that is less than my present standard 2500 van is capable of puts a damper on any desire to have that big...

    Sprinter butchery.

OK. That's the difference between a good mechanic and a quack mechanic. A quack would have had to replace the head because he wouldn't know how to weld up the damage-- probably wouldn't think it possible-- but a good mechanic can-- sometimes-- save the head in a situation like this. Maybe good...

I've just realized something about the Ford cutaways and cab chassis...

What is the advantage of this? To my way of thinking, not much. You have a higher curb weight with this, then the under 10K rating doesn't give you much breathing room for payload. So, you have a box that can fit 4 pallets, but if you try it you're overweight. Or am I missing something?

    Technical log question...

It makes me glad I'm under 10K. I have enough on my plate without having to worry that getting an oil change is "on duty" even though nobody has called me for paying work in three days, or worrying that a call for a run that I turn down might change my "duty status".

Minneapolis MN where are all the Vanners?

I saw a fair number of vans at the Flying J in Memphis last time I was there. Around Minneapolis-- can't say for sure because I never hang around there long. I can say, like some others, that if you're in a van and you have nothing to do and you're bored, it's lack of imagination and not lack of...

    Massive career change...

The desk job does have a steady paycheck, paid holidays and paid vacations. All things we don't have on the road. Since you're an "Independent Contractor"--- all those things are something you don't get. On the flip side, some desk jobs-- not all, but some-- are soul-killing jobs I wouldn't...

50 Caliber Machine Gun seized from Cargo Van , Detroit / Windsor Border

I prefer to have my machine guns mounted behind the headlights. It works better that way. The headlights flip up, the guns lock in position and--- Goldfinger never knew what hit him.

Are Any Expedited Carriers Concerned with keeping on Own/Op with current low rates?

Re: Are Any Expedited Carriers Concerned with keeping on Own/Op with current low rate The OP is dreaming--- or nightmareing, not sure which. Part of the reason we have I.C.s in this industry is the ability by the carriers to shift as much expense as possible. It costs money-- a lot of it-- to...

    10 unfriendly tax states

I was surprised that Illinois didn't make the list. I read a story not too long back that moving vans are going the wrong way here (people leaving the state, rather than coming in) and that high taxes are one big reason why.

Hot spots & Places to avoid?

I'll be satisfied so long as "being wanted" isn't followed by "The sheriff of (insert county here)".

    Cargo Van Freight Volume

We go through this every year right about now. It slows down drastically, and part of that is that we're tied in heavily with automotive supply. The big manufacturers slow at this time, don't need as much freight shipped in May and June, and we sit as a result. But, it'll pick up.

    Bad Van Crash

It doesn't matter anyway. The core of the story is that a full-size van hit a car with sufficient force that the van was on top of the car. That takes speed and not paying attention, whether it happened by collision between the vehicles or if the van hit a curb and became airborne before hitting...

    Bad Van Crash

I have a bad feeling the van driver was asleep and never even attempted to stop. It's not that easy driving a van over a car like that, it takes speed and not paying attention until you hear expensive-sounding noises.

How it works, (sorta like how it's made)

I love sausage. From what I've been told, you do NOT want to see how it's made. I have a feeling a lot of freight is like this: My job is to move it from the shipper to the receiver. How it gets to the point where I get the job might be something I'm better off not knowing.

    Missing Hot air ballon

The last report I read says that two of the bodies have been found. The balloon, basket and the pilot are still missing as of the report I read just a few moments ago. It appears that the two passengers either fell or jumped from the basket after it caught fire, but the balloon was already too...
