    Welcome September

A very good month indeed. 22,421 loaded miles as a team. 4 days with our feet kicked up at home in the middle of the month. Ending the month with a restart simply to avoid the frustration of having to refuse great load offers (and load swap confusion) due to lack of driving hours available. It...

Am I making a huge mistake?

I'm assuming this is probably true with many carriers.. but, I know in my case, the Qualcomm gives every variable available for me to do the math as we accept the loads. All the rates for deadhead, fuel surcharge, loaded miles, empty moves, load bonuses, special considerations, it's all there...

Our Life on the Road Let's Talk Taxes

Figured the thought is merely random banter without sharing the reference that allows others to verify it.. So, here it is.. :) www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=10&t=10 A current list of fuel taxes for all 50 states as of August, 2016

Our Life on the Road Let's Talk Taxes

Another consideration as being the party responsible for paying fuel costs is picking when and where to fuel up and reap the hidden rewards of being a vigilant load planner. Oklahoma has a combined fed/state tax rate of around 38 cents per gallon of diesel. Pennsylvania is at nearly 90 cents...

What does your screen name mean?

Kazper.. a reference to a truly amazing black lab that was beyond fearless. Running off the ends of docks to swim underwater catching fish.. Climbing ladders to shovel snow off rooftops and leaping off into the pile with me when we finished. Riding shotgun (or running beside me for hours)...

    Damn... Another damn noob!

Turtle certainly hit the nail on the head in his reply. My start in trucking was solo T/T for a few years. The change in pace going from that to team expediting in a straight truck was unexpected. Not in a bad way though. Just took some getting used to. Solo dedicated T/T was go go go.. out of...

Fuel for Thought Are you a LLC?

That was entertaining to read :) May I add a subcategory? The infamous MLB (Middle Lane Blocker) Sure, we all see them every day, in every shape and size.. The 4 wheeler coasting along completely ignorant of that critical sign on 3 lane roads screaming No Trucks in Left Lane! Sometimes it is...

    Fuel for Thought Shortcuts

In my very early days, about a decade ago.. I did a very similar thing. Had no GPS, only a trusty atlas and a thriving desire to experience new things out on the open road. I was on a tight schedule and had maybe $25 in my pocket. No time for ATM hunting. The company I was driving for had a...

Cities with little going out you avoid going to?

Draw a line from Buffalo to Boston. Any more than 40 miles north of that is sketchy territory. Any elevation above 6000 feet west of the Mississippi or above 2000 feet east of the Mississippi. Deader than dead. Lower elevation = Natural running water. Water = Manufacturing. Manufacturing =...

So... What is the Story on Laredo...?

Laredo is a good place to hang out. It will test your patience at times, but the miles heading out usually justify the wait time. Deadheading north only takes away from the loaded miles you could have had running north. That general rule probably doesn't apply to flatbeds.

Now THAT is a very detailed and informative reply. I truly love to learn. Thank you for the education.

So... What is the Story on Laredo...?

I tend to think of it this way.. Laredo is its own little corner in the lower 48. As long as the miles are good to get there, sitting for a day (or even 2) isn't the end of the world. The vast majority of the time, the miles are going to be as good (or better) getting out of there. Only once out...

We are delving into specialized territory that I am personally ignorant of. That being said, I believe FleetVision is probably an upsell passed on to the end user at a premium rate above whatever the standard cost is to be equipped with lesser technology. In regards to Panther and the policy...

Am I making a huge mistake?

Being a solid husband/wife team is definitely a HUGE advantage that puts you in extremely high demand within the industry. Training an inexperienced driver in a straight truck is far less of a nerve wracking experience than grinding through gear after gear. I fully agree with the 'get your...

A LOT of Truckers may fall in these early recommendations for a Sleep Apnea Test

Where's the line in the article bragging about the pending advances in medical science and the first wave of desensitizing truckers (and the society that hates them) to the future availability of a prescription medication that alleviates the need for bulky equipment and usage compliance? Guess...

The previous post mentioning the ability to zoom in to a parking spot? Sure, I know that NASA can tell you the date stamp on a dime in your pocket from the dark side of the moon, that technology certainly exists. It all comes down to what each individual or company is willing to pay for however...

    Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

The veggies tend to make it rather soupy once you reach the bottom. The entire plate containing the "Godzilla Challenge" is about 4 pounds of hearty breakfast to eat in 30 minutes. Free t-shirt if you can conquer the beast. You will certainly earn it! I typically go with the standard meat...

So... What is the Story on Laredo...?

The emergence of drug lords battling for control just over the border has completely destroyed what Laredo once was.. A decade ago, it was a decent spot to get a restart in. Plenty of places to wander. The mall was incredible. Endless CB banter to pass the time. Hopping across the border was a...

    Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

Misty Moonlight Diner in Pittsfield, Mass. Their Godzilla omlette is also featured on the food network show of insane consumption challenges. Panther states the distance to be 7 tenths of a mile. What isn't stated is the variables in technology based applications. That "7 tenths of a mile" is NOT measured by physical revolutions of any actual tire. It is based on where cell towers or satallites 'ping' the truck to be. How many times...
