    Frosty February 2015

Just got home from the drive I mention on page #1 of this thread. I-94 was passable, rest-stops and exit ramps--- not so much. US 23 and M-14 weren't too bad this morning, and Ohio was reasonable. Coming back--- sunshine. There's 19 inches of snow outside--- and that's a good place for it.

    Frosty February 2015

Western 'Burbs of Chicago--- snowing to beat the band, blizzard warnings, and ----- I have stiff going to Wixom, Michigan and then Ada, Ohio. I'll get it there--- but I'm not promising "on time". I've seen the forecast, it ain't pretty anywhere on this route.

    Nashville TA

I wouldn't have considered parking in back. I'm not sure those 53s can see me, and I don't want to find out the hard way.

Sprinter (and other diesel) turbo maintenance.

I put this question out here precisely because catastrophic failure of the turbo is--- well--- catastrophic. Often, it takes the engine with it if you can't shut down fast enough, with bearing failure and/or piston failure into the bargain. So, some sort of regular maintenance/replacement...

Sprinter (and other diesel) turbo maintenance.

I have a question, caused by my own past experience and by watching You-Tube videos of runaway engines. The question is, is there a schedule of any kind for maintenance and/or replacement of the turbocharger? It seems to me this expensive little puppy causes an enormous problem when it fails...

Anyone use a camping tent propane heater for their Sprinter or cargo van?

I can relieve your mind on that, anyway. That coffee maker was such a poor choice that I hardly used it. Even considering every potential advantage you could give it, it took FOREVER for that thing to heat water-- in the summer. I can't imagine using that thing in the winter, you'd grow long...

Anyone use a camping tent propane heater for their Sprinter or cargo van?

A couple of things. Those little heaters won't kill you, they just won't heat the van very good-- if at all. I'm surprised that they work at all in a tent, which has no insulation to speak of. Next, I too use the Big Buddy with the 20 lb tank. Like Scott says, keep windows open "about two...

    Multiple Carriers.

I tried working with two carriers a couple of years back. The results were less than spectacular, and the added headaches----- fergidaboudit. I'm with the guys I started with now, one carrier, not nearly the problems that running multiple caused.

    Roof Heights

You buy a Sprinter specifically to have a larger vehicle that a North American Slop Bucket. That being the case--- the longest, tallest 2500 series Sprinter is the ticket.

Re: i-65 SB at Whiteland, Indiana exit closed Why was it closed? Nobody explained this, and I sure would have liked to know.

Monster Winter Storm to Hit Northeast Mon. and Tue.

I'm gonna miss this one. Almost got part of it, but the Alberta Clipper went South of us today so we got maybe an inch. About when it gets bad--- stopping is a really good idea. I've been on that ride where you spin around and end up in the ditch, it's a ride I'll gladly never do again-- at...

Need advice on charging to hand unload my truck

Now, in truth I probably wouldn't charge like that. But, a standard-length Chevy van just isn't that bad a prospect to hand-unload if the boxes are liftable. If you can't lift them then hand-unload becomes laughable anyway. However, for the sake of this discussion I've assumed we're talking...

Need advice on charging to hand unload my truck

Given what you just said--- $500 is a good place to start. Sight unseen, I personally wouldn't want to chance it for much less. If I didn't get the run because my price was too high--- it's a good miss. Too much unknown but what's already known sounds like they're gonna work you like a coolie.

Need advice on charging to hand unload my truck

It's been awhile since I did a hand-unload. 54 boxes of copy-paper, 50 lbs a box, 7th floor, separated in two different sizes and the boxes placed upside-down so the print-shop could get at the paper quickly. I don't remember what the charge was, and since it was more than 20 years ago it...

    Fuel surcharge cargo vans

FSC= Fuel SurCharge. It's something paid to you over and above your base rate. 90 cents a mile might be base (as an example) and a 13 cent FSC brings your total per mile pay to 1.03.

    Fuel surcharge cargo vans

Diesel has come down some, but not nearly like gasoline has. It's still well over $3.00 a gallon just about anywhere in the US. So--- if the FSC is pegged to the price of diesel, it hasn't dropped anywhere near as sharply as it would if pegged to the price of gasoline. The FSC I'm getting now...

    Canned corn final answer

Throwing a refrigerator at a crazed gunman--- hey, if you can do it it just might work. Nobody wants to mess with someone who can throw a refrigerator at him.

    Canned corn final answer

It depends on what your degree is in, and how that relates to your chosen life occupation. Degrees are expensive, so getting one that can't be useful in the real world is pretty stupid. On the other hand--- somebody who knows what he/she wants to do with his/her life and gets the education to...

    Canned corn final answer

I think I know where the principal got her training. Yes, indeed. Well, it makes about as much sense as lobbing a can of creamed corn at a crazed gunman anyway. See training clip below:

    Canned corn final answer

These people are being allowed to teach. No, no, no, no. Unless..... hmmmm.... I've been watching a series of videos by a guy who can seemingly weaponise nearly anything. Give that guy a can of corn, and before long he'll have a slingshot/catapult that can fire the thing with enough force to...
