Is it slow all over ???

I'm in a van. Like I was just sayin', I thought I might have a problem getting time to do some maintenance-- it's been that busy. So-- the answer seems to be "It depends". Who are you driving for, where and so on--- there doesn't seem to be a constant so that you can say "Straights are busy but...

Is it slow all over ???

I was concerned that I might have an argument finding time to down my van for needed repairs. So--- of late, no. Seems like the West Coast strike actually caused more work for me rather than less.

    Unusual tire problems

I haven't checked the brand-- it IS an off-brand though-- but the size and load rating are correct for this vehicle. I have a suspicion the problems here are multiple. The left-front tire is showing significant damage in the tread. Further, I have reason to suspect-- by the nature of the damage...

    Unusual tire problems

Could be worn shocks up front--- right now that seems to be the worse problem too. I've had tires this past few months that had distinct bulges though-- so much so that the tire guy said it was defective tires. I had a rash of bulges this past summer and fall-- which prompted this thread. Last...

    Unusual tire problems

Good--- except that what I've experienced isn't sidewall damage. It's in the tread area. Not that bad roads couldn't be the cause of course--- the roads have been bad and getting worse for a long time. I've had bad sidewalls of course. One like the photo in the link above is close to blowout...

    Unusual tire problems

At least, I sure hope it's unusual-- even though it's plagued me for the past several months. I have a problem that sure looks like belt-separation in the tires. The tire will start out nice and round, just like a tire is supposed to be--- then down the road a few thousand miles it will develop...

    Driver Cams?

Cheri, I use a triple-outlet that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Further, because of power problems with the cigarette lighter socket I wired up a power-plug from an R/C car to provide power to the triple outlet. Not hard at all, really. So, 12 volt power is rather easy to figure. Now--- If I...

What does your screen name mean?

I might have already posted this, don't know. My first, middle and last initials, followed by sprt40-- short for "sport 40" which I used to build and run back in the day when I had money. R/C boats--- expensive, temperamental but loads of fun.

Get out of that shower, NOW

How about if Big Brother wants to install cameras in the showers to see who is wasting water? Is that OK with you? I live near Chicago, here we get lake water. It is metered, and I understand there are restrictions on lawn watering and so on... but showers? Nope. Besides, as Turtle pointed out...

    Cat factory passwords

I'm inclined to go with Turtle on this one. Getting the password for your truck's ecm is a whole different picture than getting passwords that allow you access to Cat's factory network. Trying to fix your truck vs trying to hack databases and steal names and security clearances and so on---.

    Cat factory passwords

I wonder just how legal this is. I suspect the answer is "not legal at all". Last time I read anything about it, hacking passwords is a serious business.

    Driver Cams?

I wonder if we can get a reality-TV show out of this? "The life and times of an expedited driver--- starring MJMSPRT40!" I wonder if ad revenues would go through the roof---- or if people couldn't turn the program off fast enough?

    Driver Cams?

If I mount the thing, and I know---- for a fact--- what its field of view is ---- nope, I'm not inclined to accept the company telling me what it is, I have to KNOW-- it might be one thing. If the company installs these things whether I like it or not, and I just have to accept that they won't...

    Driver Cams?

If it's MY camera, I have full control over it. I decide when or if it gets turned on, what it sees and so on. If I get the urge to point it at myself--- say, for a You-Tube video--- that's my choice. If I decide to pop for a camera that sees down the road and also sees me--- that's my choice...

    Driver Cams?

S'OK. Y'all wants ta put a camera in my truck. Where's it pointed, and what are ya tryin' ta prove? The more I think about this, the more I think the company that tries this may-- just may-- cross that line from "independent contractors" to "employees". If it's "problem drivers"-- hey, you...

    Driver Cams?

Seems the link is troublesome. At least for me. However: I've watched a number of You-Tube videos of Russian dash-cams, and after getting past the remarkably bad driving and the number of preventable accidents shown, one thing that stands out is that the dash-cam helps eliminate fraud. You've...

    Turn Down For What?

I've turned down runs because I was too tired to run it (and knew it), and I had to turn one down recently because it was too heavy. 3000 lbs, already dicey on a 2500 series van--- plus it was a big steel block which would have concentrated that weight on the rear axle. Nope, not worth it.

    Expedite & Wait

I want to make sure I have this right-- and maybe help anybody else understand this right. You took a load of parts to a plant. I'm guessing some sort of factory or machine shop. They did something to the parts, then placed these parts back on your vehicle to return to the original pickup. Is...

Mississippi allows NON CDL to drive church buses.."Jesus takes the wheel act"

I think that Turtle might have a point IF. The problem is that IF is a much bigger word than it appears. IF the church bus is under 25 passenger. IF it never goes beyond, say, a thirty-mile range from its base. IF it's used mainly on city streets. Maybe. Just maybe. But, the first time the...

Mississippi allows NON CDL to drive church buses.."Jesus takes the wheel act"

I still think it leaves something open that doesn't have to be. If I recall, the law-- federal, not state-- is that any vehicle that is over 15 passenger capacity in this type of service requires a CDL with passenger endorsement. I could be wrong of course, but that's what I seem to recall...
