    Small travel trailer.

Way back in the days of old, I pulled a boat trailer. It's not as easy as it looks. I think your house-trailer idea will end up being more work than it's worth, more liability than it's worth, and-- if the combined gross vehicle weight rating is over 10K-- which can very easily happen if the tow...

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, give their kids toy hammers or make love before nightfall. Showering at the local truck-stop or motel is probably a good idea too.

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

Heck, over on D&D sanctuary they let me be a mod-- in fact, insisted on it. So, the requirements to moderate a forum can't be all that high. Howsomever, I feel another "word to the wise" moment coming on. If you want to make friends and intimidate enemies, I wouldn't start by charging into...

Which Expediter Will Be the First to Use Driver Cams?

Letting my imagination run wild, safe to ignore: Imagine that they DO put one of these contraptions in my van. First day out: The video somehow gets to a TV producer (don't ask me how-- grin). They decide this would make a wonderful reality show, and they run with it. Within days of the show's...

    I-290 in chicago-flooded

That stretch between Harlem Avenue and Des Plaines Avenue is low-- plus it crosses the river right about there too. I'm surprised it doesn't flood more often than it does.

Which Expediter Will Be the First to Use Driver Cams?

Who owns the vehicle I'm driving, and am I leased on as an independent contractor or am I an employee? If I'm driving a company-owned vehicle as an employee, the company can have a driver dash-cam and there's little I can say except "so long" if I choose not to work for them. But, so long as I...

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

So, tell me: How well has the anti-Mexican thing been working? Seen fewer Mexican workers in any field they get hired into? I'll tell you straight: Making this about Russians is a dead end. It only makes you sound like a bigot, and nobody with any "book larnin'" pays much attention to bigots.

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

A word to the wise: If you want to get anywhere with this, you're just gonna have to get off of your "Russian" kick. As long as you make it about Russian drivers, you're dead in the water. All you end up achieving is to make you sound like an incurable racist, and however sound the rest of what...

Need your advice on Used Cargo Van?

I may be faced with a similar thing, as it happens. The Grey Lady is showing its years and mileage. Still runs, but leaks a bit of oil and I'm reasonably certain is beginning to lose power. Hey-- it's a '98 Chevy with 562,000 miles on it so maybe I do need to think about replacement. Bad part...

    Michigan, Upper Peninsula?

I've never been to the UP-- though I did get close a few times. Both in Wisconsin and in far North Lower Mich, only had to cross the bridge to get to the UP-- so I can't say I could help much. I'm based out of the Chicago area. However, this might not help but maybe it'll give a moment-- for the...

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

I'm thinking I can't join you in having that beer, Aquitted. See, as long as I'm on call I don't drink. If I want a beer, I have to call in off-duty--- that's just the way I roll. About the rest: It might not be popular, but-- frankly, the authorities don't care if you're not making as much...

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

I'd say it depends on the situation. Trying to get folk into trouble over minor violations because they're the hated "ferriners" is one thing. I agree with you there. On the other hand, if I KNOW that a truck is seriously unsafe and I say nothing, somebody may die because that truck isn't stopped.

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

I'm thinking I can't help much. Deadhead, if you can't be bothered calling the police when you KNOW a specific truck is pulling away from a shipper and that truck isn't fit to be on the road, then I can't be bothered getting on your bandwagon to get all upset about unfit trucks. I didn't see...

Do you have a breaker bar?

Note: Invest in a heavy-wall socket. Like the ones used on impact wrenches. A standard socket may break-- I've had it happen. So-- a thick-walled socket to fit your lugs, a long breaker bar and a piece of pipe to fit over the breaker bar-- should do it. Why tire shops use impact wrenches to put...

One Man Fight to Save the Expedited Trucking Industry

Right now, this is still state level stuff. If you have documentation that a truck is operating illegally, contact the state police in the state the truck is operating in/through. The numbers will be in your motor-carrier atlas (if you don't have one, get one) The state police have the job of...

    cargo van weight limit?

Says who? My 1998 Chevy 2500 is rated for a GVW of 8600 lbs. A full fuel tank, my personal effects and me in the drivers seat show that I have about 2900 to play with. I've had this van for 4 years now, hauling up to that weight-- and the engine, trans, drive shafts and so on don't seem to be...
