    Sprinter load ?

To the original question: Can you get 6 skids 45" wide by 45" long by 84" tall into a Sprinter: No. Can't be done. First, they're too tall (not by much, my old Sprinter was the tallest they made in the 2500 series back then-- but still, 84" is too tall). Second--- 45" + 45" gives you 90" wide...

Diesel block heater question for PM

If it's below freezing, dump in a bottle of anti-gel. Won't hurt, will help if the temps go lower than you expected. Note that most anti-gel brands boast upper-cylinder lubrication and fuel-injector cleaning--- so it's all good.

    Sprinter load ?

I've driven both. I'll drive another Sprinter when companies get the idea that somebody has to pay for these expensive vehicles--- and the driver didn't come into the business as a millionaire who just needed to kill time. Say what you will---- when my Chevy breaks, I can afford to fix it/have...

    Another Power Plant Another Story

Way back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, one of the drivers in the outfit I drove for at the time had to haul an order of milk from Bensenville, Illinois to Wisconsin. Later, he said he asked the delivery "Don't you have cows in Wisconsin?" It was as well that the weather was cool--- a van is...

Diesel block heater question for PM

-20 degree weather isn't all that common unless you're on the highway to Alaska. It DOES get cold in the Dakotas and Minnesota, but--- -20 makes the news because it's so doggone rare in the Lower 48. I note that it did get that cold-- and colder-- here in Chicago--- but that was decades ago...

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

Apparently they don't. Problem is, these days we have people who don't care about anything.

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

Hmmmm..... makes me think that becoming a fleet owner is more trouble than it's worth. It's the old story: if it's YOUR truck you take care of your stuff. If it's NOT your truck, you don't give a rip about things when you turn it in looking like you threw wild parties in there.

    Really poor manners # 32403 ?

I make a point of stopping for sleep at rest-stops and truck-stops specifically because they have rest-rooms. How hard can it be to walk from your vehicle to the men's room and do the job right? Wetting the parking-lot next to your vehicle just makes you look like a pig and gets you invited...

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

Not so much in K-Town. Just being there is a gamble I suppose. Nope, if it's a habit I'm thinking in that neighborhood more likely drugs--- though street-hookers could be a possibility too.

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

I'd second that "habit" idea. Can't think of many other reasons to want to go to K-Town, but feeding a habit--- yep, that would do it. You can buy whatever you want in K-Town. Have this guy take a drug test at his next gig--- that'll stop him cold.

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

Quickie note for all of you little-leagers. If you're driving somebody else's vehicle and you decide to take off on unauthorized excursions-- and particularly to bad neighborhoods-- that's grand-theft and you'll go to the slammer when you get caught. Be aware that a lot of fleet owners have...

    Cargo Van Anyone in Chicago?

Oh, boy. K-Town near Lake Street. I know the area--- used to deliver near there when I did courier work for a local outfit. I just got home from a trip to Iowa and back--- no way I'd try it tonight. Mebbe tomorrow, but not promising.

What companies are hiring company drivers right now?

I just had a look at the OP's posts in the "Status" section. Steep learning curve here, just so's you know. First-- we're NOT employees. Not at least in the usual sense of the word anyway. Call it either "Independent Contractor" or "1099 Contractor" (the 1099 form takes the place of the W-2)...

    Big Truck Load bar storage

I use load bars in my van. They're telescoping, three piece bars that can be used in either vans/pickups or big trucks, depending on how you set them up. I store them against the right sidewall, just behind the side cargo doors. Locked in place between floor and ceiling until needed.

    Cargo Van Van Purchase

I've had some experience with it now since I got my first full-size van in '91. My inclinations are to go with either Ford or Chevy, gas engines. Fuel will be a bit dear because those V-8s tend to be a bit thirsty, but--- they have legs, they don't break a Rockefeller to do most repairs, any...

Cargo Van Is anyone else slow right now?

The vehicle may be unregulated. The human body---- not so much. At some point, you WILL sleep. Whether you do that at a truck stop/rest stop, or upside down in the ditch, is up to you. Of course, the downside to doing it upside down in the ditch is that you may give up your air addiction at...

    Full Synthetic Oil?

I've been running a hybrid oil. Pennzoil 10-30 High Mileage oil. Seems to work OK so far (over 400,000 miles since I bought this Chevy--- it had 183,000 on it when I bought it.)

    Slow for the holiday?

It's slow. First week of the month is always slow for me for some reason, and it has the holiday too. Dual whammy. Don't rightly know if I'll get anything at all this week--- but at least there's something in the bank and I'm home, so it could be worse.

    hazmat loads

The only haz-mat I've hauled has been lubricants inside some kind of auto-part. Barely 100 lbs of haz-mat, no placarding. Just messy if it ever got loose. Way back when I worked at a factory as receiving, I received some nasty stuff. Hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid, that sort of thing. Sometimes...
