    Drones

Too high. They've been interfering with commercial aviation near major airports--- therefore the new FAA rules applying just to drones. R/C planes and copters probably can fly higher---but nothing could shut down an R/C flying field faster than interfering with commercial aviation so the clubs...

    Drones

People either got careless or stupid with the way they flew their drones. Brought the problem on themselves. R/C airplanes and helicopters are another matter. Most fields where you can fly them require you to be a member of one of the national R/C clubs and to have insurance-- usually provided...

    Camping supplies in your truck?

A Road Pro heater isn't worth the time it takes to pass by it on the store shelf, much less buying it and trying to use it. Further, connecting that thing to the vehicle's battery (probably by way of the cigarette lighter socket/12 volt power outlet) is just asking to have to call a tow truck...

POLL Will you be home for the holidays?

I voted "maybe", but the strong likelyhood is that I will be home. I already know most of the outfits I visit are closed Christmas and New Years, some are closed for the entire time between Christmas Eve and the Monday following New Years. Only one customer MIGHT call, and I have suspicions that...

    Camping supplies in your truck?

That's odd. Most 12-volt stuff I've had any experience with-- with the possible exception of tire-inflators-- are not worth the bother. Refrigerators that don't actually cool anything, coffee-makers that take longer to boil water than it would take to cross half the county for a cup of joe and...

    Pilot showers

I think this should be said here. Here in Illinois, and I think in Wisconsin, if you pull into a Pilot for gasoline AND the pumps are Road Ranger pumps, don't worry about the loyalty cards. Can't use them at the pumps, so no shower credits will be added at that Pilot. Sure, it's irritating, in...

    LOCKED IN

I'm trying to imagine arriving 2 hours early. That's asking to get free detention time at the least. 15 minutes early--- usually no problems. Look---- I have a "Screaming Meanie" timer, and a seat that reclines. Give me a spot near but not on the shipper's property, and I'll put those things...

    Pilot showers

That is the first time I ever saw a blue Pilot card. Got mine probably a year and a half back--- I use gasoline. 14 gallons gets half a shower. Of course I make sure to use the professional card--- I have the "preferred customer" card too, which is why I know how useless that card is.

    Pilot showers

Oh, gee: I have the yellow cards, and every time I buy 14 gallons I get my half-shower credit. I've never seen a blue card offered.

    Pilot showers

Here's the straight dope: Pilot/Flying J has 3 different cards. The professional card does get you shower credits. It also gets you a free coffee after you buy 9, and I think maybe some other benefits. No points if you don't buy diesel with the big fellows though. The RV card offers shower...

    Pilot showers

I buy gasoline. I use the Pilot/Flying J Professional card, 14 gallons gets you half a shower. (I can hardly wait to see what Ragman does with that!)

    Eyes on I-94

I wonder if the journalist forgot to include I-80/I-90 in that story. It would make sense then, since 80-90 goes through Indiana and Ohio. I've had a couple of runs into Battle Creek and Kalamazoo this week, and there is an increased presence of Michigan troopers on 94.

    LOCKED IN

Makes me glad I'm in a van. The only way to lock me in is to close the gates-----. Problem: The pickup was scheduled for 5:00, y'all got there at 2:00. I have a suspicion that the detention clock starts at 5:00, so you may have given them 3 free hours by arriving early.

    Courier work

Way back when I first got into expedited, I was a courier driver. Had to give up courier driving (no great loss) because these things, while similar, just do not work together. Especially when the courier company has loaded you with an all-day route, so if the expedited company does call----...

    Lake Michigan ferries

I've never used one. My Garmin made the suggestion once, I cleaned up near the ferry and it would have been shorter. But, the last ferry of the day had cleared, it would have been expensive (though I wonder how it compares with driving all the way down Lower Michigan, around the tip of the lake...

OOIDA - Members Straight Trucks or Vans Only

I have not been a member because, like so many other things in expedited, I got the idea that OOIDA is a heavyweights-only club and us van guys need not apply.

    What's the excuse?

I had to turn down a run last night. Reason: I was in no condition to be on the road and I knew it. Feeling better today, but last night--- not happening.

Will there be any loads Thurs and Fri

I live near Chicago. My dispatcher told me there have been no calls today--- to nobody's great surprise. It's the holiday weekend----- everybody has their minds on turkey (leftovers) and football--- not on shipping freight.

    Garmin Nuvi

The one issue I have with my Garmin is that it is addicted to the Chicago Skyway. It will try to go there anytime it's even remotely on the route. This is one issue I'll over-ride the Garmin on every time. The Skyway is expensive. The Kennedy/DanRyan combination is slow. If I'm coming home from...

    Big Truck Charge for advance

Do your pre-trip planning, find the home-system ATMs and use those. I don't get charged a fee on an ATM that's part of my bank network--- any other ATM charges a fee.
